The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykola Tomenko addressed the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov with a request to contribute to proper provision of all educational institutions in the country with the necessary number of course books.

M. Tomenko noted that it is not the first time that the academic year begins with an acute problem of untimely book supply. He reminded that many educationalists and school-children remember the year 2010-2011 when some course books were delivered at the end of the academic year only. He added also that that time, in response to his deputy address, the Prosecutor General?s Office of Ukraine determined that the Ministry of Science and Education "failed to ensure proper performance of the requirements of the Law of Ukraine "On Education" regarding course books publishing." "Nevertheless, the situation was not much better last academic year (2011-2012)," noted Mykola Tomenko.

Deputy Chairman claims that, unfortunately, this year the situation with timely provision with course books raises concerns. He told that during his trip around Zakarpattia last week, teachers and parents had addressed him in this respect multiple times. In particular, residents of Khudliovo village of Uzhhorod district of Zakarpattia region informed that the pupils had not received the necessary number of books yet. They lack "Fundamentals of Healthcare" for the 2nd year, "Reader" and "Mathematics" for the 4th year and other books.

Considering everything said above and the fact that the Ministry of Science and Education, Youth and Sport has claimed more than once that the problems with course books will be solved before the beginning of the academic year, Mykola Tomenko asks the Prime Minister to interfere into the situation and support proper provision of all schools with the necessary number of course books.
